That's Life

There are many ways to say it: C'est la vie. Such is life. Comme ci, comme ca. Anyway you put it, the phrase suggests life could probably be better. That was me about three weeks ago, on the cusp of some not so great news from various angles.

Not all of the news was mine (thank the Lord!), but bad news from friends can flatten us equally as much. We love our friends and often take on their problems. Our hearts reach out, but we can be physically powerless. Thank God we can turn to Him, that we don't have to worry about not 'knowing' when we know the One Who knows.

Though there has sometimes been scant 'reason' to be happy, I have been. One of the best things that has come out of being 'flat' are some of the conversations I have had with people and the unexpected blessings my friends have brought into my life. If you look for God, you will find him.

I'd had just about enough of hearing complaints as I could take, and began asking intentional questions to my friends about how good God has been to them. Suddenly glorious stories were unfolding, and my heart was so happy.

Last week when I was offered the chance to participate in a new project it made me recollect some of the wondrous things God has done in my life. As a good friend said to me yesterday, though she feels forgotten, she is not on the shelf. God still loves her, and loves her MUCH.

Today I was deleting old messages from my phone and came across one from another friend telling me she and I are alike, and not to despise standing alone when the going gets tough. God puts desires and dreams in our hearts for a reason and a purpose. I didn't delete that one ;) It's now a reminder.

To my delight I also got snail mail from a very good friend, and while she shared about hard times she also mentioned God's never-ending faithfulness in her life and extended family. Her letter has been read and re-read because her words lift me up. Never underestimate the power of a snail.

Yet another friend has had a breakthrough in a very difficult situation in her life. I've been praying for her as have others, and ground has been recovered. It's the start of very special days of healing and restoration in her life. It's so encouraging, and we continue to hope and pray.

Look for the good and you will find it. Better yet, look for God and He will be found by you. Don't LET the bad stuff keep you down. Focus on what is, not on what isn't. Some goodness displays itself as big and flashy, and other times its small and lovely. Whatever its shape or size, it is there.

When hard pressed, I cried to the Lord;
    He brought me into a spacious place. Psalm 118v5

Du fond de la détresse j’ai fait appel à l’Eternel.
L’Eternel m’a répondu, il m’a délivré.
